Lessons from early wifehood.

Kalen and I just hit our 6 month wedding anniversary! I can't believe it's already been 6 months. These past 6 months have exposed so much hidden sin in my heart, but in this, I rejoice! The wickedness I see has brought me closer to my Savior Christ.

"As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, ... For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death."
2 Corinthians 7:8-9

Paul in this passage was talking about a letter of rebuke that he sent to the Corinthian church. The church was greived by the letter of rebuke, but Paul rejoiced! Paul rejoiced not because they were greived, but because the rebuke lead to godly grief, which lead to "salvation without regret."

This past 6 months, in the light of my Savior, I have been lead to godly grief. I have gotten the oppurtunity (by God's grace) to see the darkness of my motives, the hardness and stubbornness of my heart. I didn't know these things were there because I have never been so close to someone (my husband). I now see the ugly fruits of my deceived heart and the effects it has on my precious husband.

"The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick;
who can understand it?"
Jeremiah 17:9

"The purpose in a man's heart is like deep waters,
but a man of understand will draw it out."
Proverbs 20:5

Below are the lessons I am learning and growing in. By God's grace and wise timing, I am being transformed into the image of His Son. I pray this blesses any wives out there who have also been awakened to the depths of their hearts ugliness. PRAISE God! Praise God that He has allowed us to see the depths of darkness that lies within, in order that We may lay ahold of our Savior, that we may DILIGENTLY heed His Spirit's guidance within us. This is the battle between the flesh and the Spirit of Christ (Galations 16-26). May God grant to us the strength and will to be lead by the Spirit, and not by the devouring flesh.

Psalm 143:10

Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God!
Let your good Spirit lead me
on level ground!

Lesson one: Loving Jesus first.
First off, we have to define what Jesus says love is. I constantly have to preach to myself what love truly is by God's standards. I lean on 1 Corinthians 12 & 13 to renew my mind. Read that passage. Now with the correct definition of love in the front of your mind, Jesus said the most important commandmant is:
"Love the Lord your God with
all your heart with all your soul,
with all your mind, and with all your strength."
This is loving God with 4 parts of our being! To love Jesus first, I have to put my body into check every moment of every day and ask myself, "am I loving God with ALL those areas?"  I can love with my heart, but still in my mind will be worrying. This indicates that I'm not really obeying the greatest commandent. If one of these areas is lacking, there will be chaos and disorder and I will not be loving God. It's easy to deceive ourselves and say we're loving God, but this is our standard, are we loving God more than our circumstances? Are we trusting with our worries? Are we continually staying in His Word while obeying it, that we may worship Him in Spirit and in truth?

Loving Jesus first is not a statement, it's an action. Loving Jesus first takes all of our attention and puts it on the Word of God. It trusts and obeys the Word of God. It relys on the Word of God for strength. It does not rely on our circumstances, husbands, families, ministry growth, ect. for affirmation, But it relys solely on the One who created all these things.

I think I am going to stop right here. This is where I want to stop today because I have not mastered this. I have not mastered loving Jesus first, or disciplening myself to truly love Him first with His love, so how can I go on giving you  more lessons I've learned? This is the most important lesson and I want to stay here until I have learned and trained myself to obey this precious commandment. I truly believe & know that by the power of Christ, we can master this commandment on earth. Jesus wouldn't have commanded it if we couldn't do it, especially since He sent His Spirit to help us.

www.mysecondlove.net is a great avenue that God lead me to in the search of biblical submission. Sunny Shell, the author and creator of this site, is a wonderful God-fearing, submissive wife. If you want to tell me that these commandments can't be obeyed, I want you to meet this woman. She is living proof of God's power and what happens with a life that is truly submitted to His Word. I want to challenge you to visit this site, and join this road to true biblical submission with me! Let's not settle for a mundane relationship, when God has a beautiful plan for our marriages!

In Christ's Love,
Lindsey Houck! :o)
